Samoëns is part of an extensive skiing area (260km of slopes) that includes Flaine,
Morillon, Les Carroz, and Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval which is connected to Flaine by the 14km Piste des Cascades. The Piste des Cascades
runs through the nature reserve, and was recently recognised as one of the most picturesque runs in France.

The nearest ski lift to the village is the new Grand
Massif Express Ski lift which takes you up to Samoens 1600 in under ten minutes. The ski lift is about 10 minutes walk from
our apartment in the village. Alternatively if you are carrying skis this is a 1 minute ride via a free local ski bus caught
from outside the Cinema le Criou (5 minute walk) or Tourist Office. There is
also extensive car parking at the bottom of the ski lift.
The Grand Massif ski area has a magnificent setting with superb panoramic views of
Europe's highest mountain Mont Blanc. It has everything needed to cater for
skiers of all abilities from Alpine skiing, extensive off piste, monoski, telemark, cross country, snowboarding including
Jam Parks, snow shoes to explore hidden-away views, skating, parapenting, ice climbing, caving, dog sledging and skidoo safaris.
Ski lift passes for the Massif Partial (Samoens, Morillon, Les Carroz and Sixt) or
the Grand Massif pass which also includes Flaine can be purchased at the ski lift. Ski lessons are available for skiers of
all abilities at the ski school in the village. There is extensive off piste and challenging black runs. The whole area has
an excellent snow record.
In addition the vast 560km Portes du Soleil ski circuit is less than half an hours
drive away at Les Gets. From there you can ski to Morzine, Avoriaz and into Switzerland.
Alternatively, Chamonix is less than one hour away and the Bureau des Guides in Samoens can arrange
expeditions to La Vallee Blanche.
